The short answer

A super-midsize jet from Teterboro to Eagle County, the airport for Vail and Beaver Creek, takes about four hours going west, and a one-way charter in that category usually costs between about $25,000 and $52,000. Eagle County is about 45 minutes from Vail Village and 40 from Beaver Creek. Its 9,000-foot runway has no wingspan limit and no curfew, so it takes the large-cabin jets that Aspen can't. What most people don't know: from November to April the runway isn't cleared of snow or monitored between 11 pm and 6 am, and night operations are discouraged for pilots who don't know the airport, so plan to land in daylight.

How long is the flight from Teterboro to Vail?

Estimates. Block time is the gate-to-gate figure: the distance divided by typical cruise speeds (430 to 490 knots), plus roughly 20 minutes for taxi, climb and descent, adjusted for the westerly winds that make the westbound leg longer. Turboprops and very light jets are not listed because they would usually need a fuel stop.

How much does a private jet from Teterboro to Vail cost?

Estimated ranges as of October 2026, in US dollars, including the 7.5% federal excise tax. These are estimates from published hourly rates, not quotes.
AircraftOne wayRound trip
Light jet$15,000 to $33,000$28,000 to $50,000
Midsize jet$19,000 to $40,000$36,000 to $62,000
Super-midsize jet$25,000 to $52,000$48,000 to $82,000
Heavy jet$35,000 to $72,000$68,000 to $115,000
Ultra-long-range jet$50,000 to $95,000$95,000 to $150,000

What goes into the price

A Vail quote is built like any domestic trip:

  • about four hours of flight time each way at the operator’s hourly rate
  • positioning if the aircraft isn’t already nearby, or has to fly home empty
  • the 7.5% federal excise tax, plus a $5.30 per-passenger segment fee in 2026
  • handling at both ends
  • crew hotel and per diem if the aircraft stays
  • catering
  • de-icing, which is likely on winter mornings at both Teterboro and Eagle County

Signature is the only FBO at Eagle County, so ramp, parking and hangar charges come from one company. Its website is inconsistent about overnight parking: the marketing copy offers heated overnight hangar and ramp space, while its FAQ says it doesn’t include overnight hangar or ramp parking. Jake confirms the arrangement before quoting, because it decides whether the aircraft waits or leaves.

What makes this route cheaper or more expensive

The holidays. NBAA has described the Christmas holiday as the busiest period at the Colorado mountain airports, “notably EGE.” That is when prices peak and aircraft are hardest to find. Presidents’ Day week (February 15, 2027) is the other big one.

Direction. On holiday weekends aircraft arrive full and leave empty, and the reverse a week later. A one-way trip in the busy direction usually carries some positioning cost.

Aircraft size. Because Eagle County takes large-cabin and ultra-long-range jets, you have more choice than at Aspen. If a group needs a Gulfstream G650 or a Global, Eagle County is the airport that can take it.

2027. Aspen’s airport closes from April 4 to November 19, 2027, and Eagle County expects more traffic between Eagle and the Roaring Fork Valley. For the end of the ski season and the summer of 2027, Eagle County will be busier than usual.

Empty legs around the ski holidays

An empty leg is a flight the operator would make anyway without passengers, sometimes sold at a discount. On Charter Jet One’s figures, the saving can reach 75%. Around the ski holidays the pattern is general industry experience, not published data. Aircraft bring families out before Christmas and fly home empty, then come back empty to collect them in early January.

An illustrative example: a heavy jet leaves a group at Eagle County on December 20 and needs to be in New York the next day. A flexible client heading east on December 21 might fly it for a fraction of the normal price. That’s an example of how empty legs arise, not a flight for sale. Tell Jake your window and he will look.

Departing from Teterboro

Teterboro is 12 miles from Midtown, about 22 minutes when the roads are clear. Its runways are 6,997 and 6,014 feet long.

The airport’s 100,000-pound weight limit applies to the aircraft’s actual weight. It’s worth noting on this route because some ultra-long-range jets have a certified maximum takeoff weight just under or over that line. The Gulfstream G650 is 99,600 pounds and the Global 6500 is 99,500 pounds, both under the limit. On a four-hour trip, an aircraft certified above the limit would also operate well below it.

Departures from runway 24 are limited to 80 decibels from 10 pm to 7 am, and voluntary quiet hours run from 11 pm to 6 am.

Timing. Vail is two hours behind New York. A late-morning departure from Teterboro lands at Eagle County in the early afternoon, in daylight and well inside the tower’s hours.

Arriving at Eagle County

The airport. Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is in Gypsum, about 30 miles west of Vail, at 6,547 feet. It has one runway, 7/25, which is 9,000 feet long and 150 feet wide. Arrivals on runway 25 have 8,000 feet available after its displaced threshold. Every published instrument approach is to runway 25.

Terrain and night operations. The FAA’s notes for the airport describe high, unmarked terrain in all directions and say night operations are discouraged for pilots unfamiliar with the airport. The tower is open 7 am to 7 pm, and the airport is attended 6 am to 9 pm.

Winter snow removal. From November to April, the FAA notes say there is no snow removal or runway monitoring from 0600 to 1300 UTC, which is 11 pm to 6 am Mountain time. A late arrival after a snowfall can find the runway unavailable until morning.

The FBO. Signature Aviation, formerly the Vail Valley Jet Center, which Signature bought in 2021. It’s open 6 am to 9 pm with call-out on request. When Signature bought it, the facility had about 260,000 square feet of hangars and a de-icing facility.

Customs. Eagle County is a user-fee customs airport. US Customs works Thursday to Monday, 9 am to 5 pm Mountain time, and is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. After-hours service needs advance arrangement.

Ground distances (free-flow, no traffic).

From Eagle County to Distance Drive time
Edwards ~23 miles ~31 minutes
Arrowhead ~25 miles ~35 minutes
Cordillera ~24 miles ~36 minutes
Beaver Creek Village ~29 miles ~40 minutes
Bachelor Gulch ~28 miles ~42 minutes
Vail Village ~35 miles ~45 minutes
Lionshead ~36 miles ~46 minutes

The drive runs east on Interstate 70 along the valley. It doesn’t cross Vail Pass or the Eisenhower Tunnel, which are on the Denver side. Colorado’s winter traction law can apply on this stretch of I-70 from September to May, so a car and driver used to winter mountain driving is worth having.

Seasons and events

Winter 2026 to 2027. Vail Mountain is scheduled to open November 13, 2026, and Beaver Creek November 25, 2026, both subject to weather. ILLENIUM opens Vail’s winter music season at Dobson Arena on December 11, 2026. Christmas falls on a Friday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 18 and Presidents’ Day is February 15, 2027.

Summer 2027. The GoPro Mountain Games are June 10 to 13, 2027, and the Vail Dance Festival opens July 30, 2027. Bravo! Vail’s 40th season is in 2027, with dates not yet announced. With Aspen closed, summer traffic into Eagle County will be heavier than usual.

When to book. For Christmas to New Year’s and Presidents’ Day, start as soon as your dates are firm. Ramp space at a one-FBO airport is the constraint. NBAA has noted that strong demand for ramp space at Eagle County and Aspen, with many late-morning and early-afternoon arrivals, can bring regular ground stops in winter.

Which aircraft fits best

A super-midsize jet suits most families: nonstop both ways, a cabin you can stand in, and room for ski bags. Eagle County is also where a large-cabin or ultra-long-range jet makes sense, because it can land there and not at Aspen. Choose one for a group of ten or more, a lot of luggage or a party flying on from Colorado. A light jet suits two to four people travelling light, with a fuel stop possible going west.

How Jake handles this route

Jake plans the arrival for daylight, well inside the tower’s hours, and checks that the operator is ARGUS Gold or Platinum rated and has crews who know Eagle County. He confirms parking with Signature before quoting, books cars suited to winter driving on I-70 and keeps an eye on the Christmas and Presidents’ Day demand. Clients leaving for Vail will often find him at Teterboro before they board.

Yes, on certain days. US Customs at Eagle County works Thursday to Monday, 9 am to 5 pm Mountain time, and is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, with after-hours service by advance arrangement. International arrivals that divert for weather go to Denver International.

Does the drive from Eagle County to Vail go over Vail Pass?

No. From Eagle County the drive stays in the valley along Interstate 70 east to Vail. Vail Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel are on the Denver side, which is one reason to fly into Eagle rather than Denver.

When does Vail open for the 2026 to 2027 season?

Vail Mountain is scheduled to open November 13, 2026, and Beaver Creek November 25, 2026. Vail Resorts says opening dates depend on weather and conditions.
