The short answer
A heavy or ultra-long-range jet flies from Teterboro to Nice nonstop in about seven and a half hours going east and close to nine hours coming home. A one-way charter usually costs between about $75,000 and $162,000 in a heavy jet. Super-midsize jets are at the edge of their published range and usually need a fuel stop. What most people don't know: Cannes Mandelieu, the airport nearest Cannes, bars jets above 35 tonnes and closes at night, so the usual plan is to land at Nice and take a helicopter, which the airport says takes 7 minutes to Monaco.

What goes into the price
Nice is the longest nonstop trip on this site, and the price has several parts:
- Flight time. About 7.5 hours east and 8.75 hours west in a heavy jet, at the operator’s hourly rate.
- Positioning. Many heavy and ultra-long-range jets are based in the US. A one-way trip usually carries the aircraft’s empty return or its positioning.
- US international tax. The flight is international, so the 7.5% excise tax doesn’t apply. The US international arrival and departure tax does: $23.40 per passenger for each US departure and arrival in 2026.
- Handling and parking at Nice. Quoted per trip. The French publication lists several handlers for business aviation, and we could not find a published fee schedule.
- The helicopter transfer. If you go on to Monaco or the coast, Blade’s shared seats start at €195 each. A private helicopter is quoted per flight.
- Crew costs. If the aircraft waits, you pay crew hotels and per diem.
We could not confirm whether France currently applies a special charge to private flights. Jake checks before you book.
What makes this route cheaper or more expensive
The aircraft. The route rules out light and midsize jets, and super-midsize jets usually need a stop. The real choice is between a heavy and an ultra-long-range jet.
Event weeks. Aircraft and parking are scarcest during the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix.
| Event | 2027 dates |
|---|---|
| Cannes Film Festival (80th edition) | May 11 to 22 |
| Monaco Grand Prix | June 4 to 6 |
The stay. For a long stay, it is often cheaper for the aircraft to fly home and come back than to wait. Jake prices both.
Empty legs on the transatlantic route
Transatlantic empty legs arise when an aircraft finishes a trip on one side of the Atlantic and has to go home. They are less frequent and less predictable than on domestic routes. We could not find published data on how often. Charter Jet One’s figure for the discount is up to 75%.
An illustrative example: a European-based heavy jet brings clients to Teterboro and returns to Nice empty the next day. A traveller with flexible dates could fly it for less. It shows how an empty leg arises. It isn’t a flight on offer.
Departing from Teterboro
Teterboro is about 12 miles from Midtown, roughly 22 minutes in free-flow traffic. The 100,000-pound limit applies to the aircraft’s actual weight. The ultra-long-range jets on this route are the ones closest to it with a full fuel load. The Gulfstream G650 and Global 6500 are certified just under it, while larger types such as the Global 7500 and G650ER must keep their operating weight below it, which the operator plans for.
Runway 24 departures are limited to 80 decibels from 10 pm to 7 am, and the airport asks for voluntary restraint from 11 pm to 6 am. Teterboro has US customs on the field, open 7:30 am to 11:15 pm daily, so you clear on your return at the same airport.
Nonstop range
| Category | Examples | Published range | On this route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super-midsize | Challenger 3500, Citation Longitude, Gulfstream G280 | 3,000 to 3,500 nm | No. The distance is 3,463 nm, so expect a stop each way |
| Heavy | Challenger 650, Falcon 2000LXS (4,000 nm); Gulfstream G550 (6,750 nm); Falcon 7X (5,950 nm) | 4,000 to 6,750 nm | Marginal in the Challenger 650 and Falcon 2000LXS westbound; comfortable in the G550 and Falcon 7X |
| Ultra-long-range | Gulfstream G650, Falcon 8X, Global 6500 | 6,450 to 7,000 nm | Nonstop both ways with room to spare |
Ranges are manufacturers’ published figures under their own conditions. Real range depends on passengers, bags, winds and reserves, and the operator confirms it for your trip.
The winds. The North Atlantic winds help eastbound flights and slow westbound ones, so the flight home is usually the one that needs the larger margin.
Nice airport
The airport. Nice Côte d’Azur (LFMN) is 3.2 nautical miles southwest of Nice. It has two runways: 04R/22L at 2,963 by 45 meters and 04L/22R at 2,628 meters. The French publication lists customs and police as staffed 24 hours.
Handlers. The publication lists several for private customers, including Aviapartner, Signature and DC Aviation. Fuel is available from 4 am, and the stand entry needs a marshaller.
Night rules. There is no general curfew. The publication bars the noisiest older aircraft, Chapter 2 jets and the loudest Chapter 3, from landing between 11:30 pm and 6:15 am and from taking off between 11:15 pm and 6 am. It also closes certain departure stands on the Kilo apron between 10 pm and 5 am, so a departure from them needs the aircraft towed. Engine tests aren’t allowed from 9 pm to 6 am.
Slots. The publication doesn’t mention slots at Nice. Jake confirms with the handler for your dates.
Cannes Mandelieu
Cannes Mandelieu (LFMD) is 3.2 nautical miles west of Cannes and the airport nearest Cannes. The French publication sets tight limits:
- Jets above 35 tonnes maximum take-off weight are prohibited, as are turboprops above 22 tonnes.
- The main runway, 17/35, is 1,540 by 45 meters. The shorter runway 04/22 is closed to aircraft with a wingspan over 15 meters.
- The airfield is closed at night, and ATS hours are 7 am to 7, 8 or 9 pm depending on the NOTAM. Only runway 35 is used for landing at night.
- Customs and immigration are “on request.”
- During coordination periods set by NOTAM, every IFR flight needs a slot from the coordinator COHOR, the flight plan must carry the slot number, and the handler Sky Valet is mandatory.
- The airport can’t be used for repetitive commercial flights, and the noise rules carry fines of up to €40,000 for the operator.
By maximum take-off weight, the Gulfstream G550 (91,000 pounds, about 41 tonnes), G650 and Global 6500 are over the limit. The Challenger 650 (48,200 pounds, about 21.9 tonnes) and Falcon 7X (70,000 pounds, about 31.8 tonnes) are under it. Whether a jet can use the airfield also depends on its wingspan, the runway and slots, which the operator checks, and most transatlantic flights use Nice.
Monaco by helicopter
Monaco has no airport for jets. Nice airport’s website says Blade offers 7-minute helicopter transfers between the airport and Monaco, daily and year-round, from €195 a seat. The flights are run by the operators Monacair and Héli Sécurité, and Blade also gives lounge access at Terminals 1 and 2. Héli Air Monaco, founded in 1976, offers private transfers from Nice airport. Green Bees Helico has a desk at Terminal 2.
We could not confirm schedules or exact pickup points for a private jet’s passengers, so Jake arranges the transfer with the handler before you arrive. The flight is short, but a Grand Prix week means heavy demand.
Entering France
Visa and stay. US citizens do not need a visa for a short stay in the Schengen area. The limit is 90 days in any 180-day period.
Passport. The European Commission says it should expire at least three months after you leave the Schengen area.
ETIAS. It isn’t required yet. The European Commission’s January 2026 article said it was scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2026. A report from October 2026 says no date is set and that 2027 is the earliest realistic window. Jake checks the official Travel to Europe site before you fly.
Entry/Exit System. EES records passport details, a facial image and fingerprints for non-EU visitors. The Commission says it started operating on October 12, 2025, and was due to be fully in place by April 10, 2026. We could not confirm how the check works for private flights at Nice, so Jake asks the handler.
Coming home
The operator files the US advance passenger manifest and asks for permission to land. CBP’s Teterboro fact sheet says to ask at least two hours before leaving the foreign airport. Teterboro has customs on the field, open 7:30 am to 11:15 pm daily.
Nice is six hours ahead of New York for most of the year, and the flight home takes about 8.75 hours. To land at Teterboro by 11:15 pm, the aircraft needs to leave Nice by about 8 pm local time at the latest, and earlier to leave a margin for customs. Jake builds the return around that.
Which aircraft fits best
An ultra-long-range jet is the comfortable answer for Nice: it flies nonstop both ways with a margin, and the cabin makes sense on an 8-hour flight. A heavy jet such as a Gulfstream G550 or Falcon 7X also flies the route with room to spare. A Challenger 650 works eastbound but has little margin coming home. A super-midsize can be priced lower, but with a fuel stop each way the saving is small and the trip is much longer.
How Jake handles this route
Jake picks the aircraft by range and the wind forecast, not only by price. He checks that the operator is ARGUS Gold or Platinum rated, and he confirms the handler, parking and any slot requirement for your dates, especially in the Film Festival and Grand Prix weeks. If you’re going on to Monaco or Cannes, he arranges the helicopter or car before you land. He checks every passport and the ETIAS and entry-exit situation before you fly, and often meets clients on the ramp at Teterboro before departure.
Questions people ask about Teterboro to Nice
How long is a private jet flight from New York to Nice?
About seven and a half hours going east in a heavy jet and close to nine hours coming back west. The great-circle distance from Teterboro to Nice is about 3,463 nautical miles, and the North Atlantic winds explain most of the difference between directions.
Can a private jet fly nonstop from New York to Nice?
Yes, in an ultra-long-range jet such as a Gulfstream G650, Falcon 8X or Global 6500, and in most heavy jets such as the G550 and Falcon 7X. Challenger 650 and Falcon 2000LXS jets have a 4,000 nautical mile published range, so westbound they have little margin. A super-midsize usually stops.
Which airport is best for a private jet to the French Riviera?
Nice Côte d'Azur for almost every trip. It has two runways of about 2,600 and 2,960 meters, customs and police staffed 24 hours and several business aviation handlers. Cannes Mandelieu is closer to Cannes but is much more limited.
Can a private jet land at Cannes Mandelieu?
Only a smaller one. The French aeronautical publication bars jets above 35 tonnes, closes the airfield at night, and puts the main runway at 1,540 meters. From the 'coordination periods' set by NOTAM, every IFR flight also needs a slot from the French coordinator COHOR and a mandatory handler.
Do jets bigger than 35 tonnes use Nice instead?
Yes. Gulfstream G550s and G650s, and Global 6500s, weigh well over 35 tonnes at maximum take-off, so they cannot use Cannes Mandelieu. A Challenger 650 or Falcon 7X is under the limit, but the operator still checks wingspan, runway length and slots.
How do I get from Nice airport to Monaco by helicopter?
Nice airport's own site says Blade runs 7-minute helicopter transfers between the airport and Monaco all year, from €195 a seat, using the operators Monacair and Héli Sécurité. Héli Air Monaco offers private transfers from Nice airport and can be booked on its own number.
Is there a curfew at Nice airport?
Not a general one. Jets arrive and leave through the night, and customs and police are staffed 24 hours. The restrictions apply to the noisiest older aircraft, which can't land from 11:30 pm to 6:15 am or take off from 11:15 pm to 6 am, and to departures from certain stands, which are closed from 10 pm to 5 am.
When is the Monaco Grand Prix in 2027?
June 4 to 6, 2027, according to the official Formula 1 calendar, where it is Round 8. Nice is one of the busiest airports on the Riviera that week, so book the aircraft, the parking and the helicopter early.
When is the Cannes Film Festival in 2027?
May 11 to 22, 2027, the 80th edition, according to the festival's official site. Expect heavy demand for jets and helicopters at Nice.
Do I need a visa or ETIAS to fly to Nice?
No visa for US citizens on a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180. ETIAS is not yet required: the European Commission said in January 2026 that it would start in the last quarter of 2026, but a report from October 2026 says no date has been set. Your passport should expire at least three months after you leave the Schengen area.
