The short answer

A light jet from Teterboro to Boston takes about 45 minutes, and a one-way charter usually costs between about $7,000 and $13,000. For a day trip to downtown, the Seaport or the medical area, Logan is our pick: it is about 9 minutes from Boston Common without traffic, against about 36 minutes from Hanscom Field in Bedford. What most people don't know: Logan won't let non-tenant charter aircraft stay overnight without Massport's permission, which doesn't affect a same-day trip, and Hanscom charges a flat $596 for any jet over 12,500 pounds that arrives or departs between 11 pm and 7 am, so a late meeting can cost more there.

How long is the flight from Teterboro to Boston?

Estimates to Logan. Block time is the gate-to-gate figure: the distance divided by typical cruise speeds, plus roughly 20 minutes for taxi, climb and descent. On a flight this short the categories differ by only a few minutes, and arrival sequencing at a busy airport like Logan can add more than the aircraft choice saves. Hanscom is about the same distance from Teterboro.

How much does a private jet from Teterboro to Boston cost?

Estimated ranges as of October 2026, in US dollars, including the 7.5% federal excise tax. These are estimates from published hourly rates, not quotes.

Super-midsize jet$12,000 to $21,000$13,000 to $40,000Round-trip low end assumes a same-day return

What goes into the price

On a 45-minute trip the flight itself is a small part of the cost. A same-day trip is priced as an aircraft that flies up, waits and flies back with you, so the biggest variable is how long the crew waits and whether the aircraft has to stay overnight.

The rest is the usual:

  • the 7.5% federal excise tax and a $5.30 per-passenger segment fee in 2026
  • handling at Teterboro and at the Boston FBO
  • catering
  • the airport’s own fees (below)

Hanscom’s published fees (effective July 1, 2026). Massport charges a departure fee for transient jets based on weight: $3.72 per 1,000 pounds for aircraft over 10,000 pounds, and flat fees of $13.03 and $19.55 for lighter aircraft. A 17,000-pound light jet pays about $63. Other fees, such as ramp fees, come from the FBO.

Logan’s fees. We couldn’t find a current published rate for Logan. Jake gets the figures from Signature before you commit.

What makes this route cheaper or more expensive

Waiting versus returning empty. A day trip with the aircraft waiting costs less than two separate one-way flights. The low end of the round-trip range assumes a same-day return. An overnight stay adds parking and possibly a hotel for the crew.

Airport choice. Logan saves road time, and Hanscom has no overnight restriction listed. Either way the flight time to Teterboro is about the same.

Late finishes. At Hanscom, any arrival or departure between 11 pm and 7 am carries a night field use fee: $84 up to 12,500 pounds and $596 above. A Citation CJ3 (13,870 lb) or CJ4 (17,110 lb) is over 12,500 pounds. Plan the return to leave before 11 pm.

Empty legs on this route

Aircraft move between New York and Boston in both directions, so empty legs are possible. That is broker experience and not a published statistic. Charter Jet One’s own figure for the saving is up to 75%.

Two illustrative examples:

  • Northbound. A light jet is positioning to Boston empty on Monday morning to collect a group. You could fly up with it.
  • Southbound. A midsize jet has dropped passengers in Boston and is heading back to Teterboro empty. You could fly down with it.

These show how empty legs arise. They aren’t flights for sale. They follow the operator’s timing and can change at short notice.

Departing from Teterboro

Teterboro is about 12 miles from Midtown, roughly 22 minutes in free-flow traffic. It has runways of 6,997 and 6,014 feet, and FBOs from Jet Aviation, Atlantic and Signature. The airport asks for voluntary restraint from 11 pm to 6 am, which is worth remembering on a late return.

Which Boston airport

Logan (BOS) Hanscom (BED)
Distance to Boston Common by road about 3.6 miles, 9 minutes about 20 miles, 36 minutes
Longest runway 10,083 feet 7,011 feet
FBOs Signature Jet Aviation, Atlantic, Signature
Overnight parking Non-tenant charter aircraft need Massport permission Not restricted in the Chart Supplement
Night fee Not found $84 or $596 from 11 pm to 7 am

Drive times are free-flow estimates without traffic.

Our pick for a day trip to downtown: Logan. The road saving is about 27 minutes each way, which adds up to a bit under an hour over the day. Its longest runway is 10,083 feet. The trade-offs are that Logan is a busy commercial airport, and that we could not verify its fees or ramp conditions. Jake checks both with Signature.

Hanscom if your destination is west or north of the city. Lexington, Concord, Waltham and Route 128 are closer to Bedford than to Logan. Hanscom has no overnight restriction listed in the Chart Supplement, and it has three FBOs to choose from. Massport’s Fly Friendly program asks pilots to follow noise procedures. For runway 23 departures, aircraft hold runway heading to 1,000 feet to avoid a noise-sensitive historic area to the south.

Arriving at Logan

The FBO. Signature Aviation, at 240 Prescott Street in East Boston. It lists 24-hour service, seven days a week, on-site U.S. Customs, a crew lounge and a sleep room. There is about 30,000 to 40,000 square feet of ramp. It offers a reservation option, and says to check with the terminal before arrival.

Overnight stays. The FAA Chart Supplement says non-tenant charter aircraft may not park overnight at Logan without prior permission from Massport. For a same-day trip this doesn’t come up. For an overnight, Jake asks first, and Hanscom is the fallback, since it lists no such restriction.

Noise. Logan lists no curfew. Runway 15R is preferred for takeoff and 33L for landing for noise abatement.

Ground transport. Jake arranges a car to meet you at the FBO.

A day trip, step by step

This is an illustrative plan, not a booked itinerary:

  • Meet the aircraft at Teterboro for a departure around 7:00 am.
  • Land in Boston in under an hour. At Logan, the car ride downtown is about 9 minutes without traffic.
  • Hold the aircraft at the FBO while you work. The crew waits.
  • Leave Boston in the late afternoon or early evening, to be back at Teterboro before the voluntary quiet hours start at 11 pm.

Tell Jake when your last meeting finishes. If the day might run past 11 pm and you are using Hanscom, plan for the night fee.

Which aircraft fits best

A turboprop such as a Pilatus PC-12 or a light jet such as a Phenom 300E is the natural choice. Either does the trip in under an hour and costs least. A midsize jet makes sense for seven or eight people, or a lot of luggage. Larger aircraft add cost without saving time.

How Jake handles this route

Jake confirms the operator is ARGUS Gold or Platinum rated. He picks between Logan and Hanscom by where your meetings are and whether the aircraft stays overnight, and he asks the FBO for its fees in writing. For a day trip he builds in a return before Hanscom’s 11 pm night fee window and Teterboro’s quiet hours. He arranges a car at the FBO and often meets clients on the ramp at Teterboro.
